Volunteer abroad and experience another culture like never before while working side-by-side with local people.
Gently resting on an endless coastline, Salvador is Brazil 's oldest city and first capital. Today, it serves at the capital of Bahia and is a thriving center of Afro-Brazilian life. The landscape is breathtaking and the flora and fauna are almost as diverse as the population. With people of European, Asian, Arab, African and indigenous descent, Brazil offers a mosaic of cultures. Regardless of their backgrounds, one thing's for sure - Brazilians are known for their contagious smiles and positive outlook on life.
The majority of the country's famous artists and musicians hail from this area, making this city Brazil 's most artistic. From Candomblé, a traditional Afro-Brazilian religion, to Capoeira, an African martial art that combines skill with rhythm and dancing, the people of Salvador are very proud of their heritage and love to celebrate it. With streets throughout the city filled with scenes of dancing and music year-round, it's no wonder so many here are always happy and smiling. In fact, don't be surprised if you are invited to join in a local samba or two!
