When planning your trip or vacation to South America make sure you check to see whether you need a Consular Travel Visa to the countries you are visiting. The worst thing to happen is show up at the airport to begin your trip and have them turn you back because you do not have a visa to one of the countries you plan to visit.

For US Citizens (source: US Dept of State – www.travel.state.gov)

• Argentina – Passport required. Visa not required for tourist stay up to 90 days. However, prior to arrival in Argentina, U.S. citizen tourist and business travelers must pay a $160 reciprocity fee. The fee is payable on the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones website. A printed receipt must be shown to your airline company upon check-in and submitted to immigration authorities upon arrival. Failure to pay this fee in advance may result in refusal of boarding or entry to Argentina and a possible return to your port of origin. The fee is valid for multiple entries until one month prior to the expiry of your passport. Make sure you keep more than one copy of the receipt for your entries.
• Bolivia – Passport required. Visa not required for tourist stay up to 30 days. Tourist cards issued upon arrival in Bolivia.
• Brazil – Passport and visa required. Tourist visas are issued within 24 hours if submitted in person by the applicant. Find the local Brazilian Consulate near you for more information.
• Chile – Passport proof onward/return ticket required. Visa not required for stay up to 3 months may be extended. Entry fee of $45 (US) charged at airport.
  Ecuador & Galapagos Islands – Passport and return/onward ticket required for stay up to 90 days.
• Peru – Passport required. Visa not required for tourist stay up to 90 days extendible after arrival. Tourists need onward/return ticket.

• Argentina – Passport required. Visa not required for tourist stay up to 90 days.
• Bolivia – Passport required. Visa not required for tourist stay up to 90 days.

• Ecuador & Galapagos Islands – Passport required. Visa not required for tourist stay up to 90 days.

• Argentina – Passport required. Canadian tourists must pay a US$92 reciprocity fee online prior to their arrival in Argentina. The fee is payable on the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones website. A printed receipt must be shown to your airline company upon check-in and submitted to immigration authorities upon arrival. Failure to pay this fee in advance may result in refusal of boarding or entry to Argentina and a possible return to your port of origin. • Brazil – Passport and visa required. Tourist visas issued to Canadian passport holders are valid for multiple entries and usually five years from the date of issue. To stay in excess of 30 days, visas must be validated at a local police station.
• Chile – Although most Canadians do not need a visa to visit Chile, all travellers are given a tourist card (valid for a maximum period of 90 days) upon arrival. The tourist card must be presented prior to departure. Failure to produce this document may result in delays until a replacement card is obtained.
• Ecuador & Galapagos Islands – Passport and return/onward ticket required for stay up to 90 days.
• Peru – Passport required. Visa not required for tourist stay up to 90 days extendible after arrival. Canadians do not require a tourist visa to enter Peru. An entry stamp will be provided in the passport upon arrival at a Peruvian port of entry for up to 180 days, the length of which is determined by immigration officers. Overstaying a visa or entry stamp is a criminal offense. In most cases, Peruvian immigration charges a fee of US$1 for each day of overstaying a visa. This fee must be paid upon exiting the country.

• Argentina – Passport required. Visa not required for tourist stay up to 90 days. Australian tourists are charged a “reciprocity fee” of USD111. The fee must be paid prior to arrival at all ports of entry, including airports, ports and land border crossings. The reciprocity fee is payable online on the Argentine Migration website. Travellers should print the receipt and submit it to Argentine immigration authorities at the port of entry. Travellers who have not paid the reciprocity fee prior to arrival at an Argentine port of entry may be sent back to their port of embarkation.
• Bolivia – Passport required. Bolivia tourist visa is not required for citizens of Australia for a stay up to 30 days.
