Brazil Vacation Package – Highlights – Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, Fernando de Noronha and Amazon (21N)

This package includes some of the most popular and exciting destinations in Brazil: the unmissable Rio de Janeiro city, the pristine beaches of Búzios, the magic of Bahia state, the paradisiacal Fernando de Noronha island and the misterious Amazon.

Rio de Janeiro is a must for anyone coming to Brazil. The huge rocky and green hills surrounded by blue seas and white sands make this city a great visual spectacle. Not to mention the “carioca” way of life, mixing beach and beauty with music and culture. Just about 2 hours drive from Rio City is Búzios, a charming town that mixes simplicity and sophistication, with great restaurants and bars as well as chiq boutiques.

Salvador da Bahia was the first capital of Brazil and carries a lot of history in its streets. It´s the most African city in Brazil and this is very visible in the everyday life of its people, with baianas selling acarajés and other delicious bahian snacks of African origin as well as the sight of people practicing the Capoeira, a martial art∕dance, originally African, adapted by African slaves. Besides history, Salvador has great beaches and interesting places to visit.

An hour north of Salvador is Praia do Forte, a fishing village turned posh, all very tastefully. It has great shops and restaurants and a great beach with natural pools, not to mention Projeto Tamar, a project for the preservation of turtles.

Turquoise clear waters, an incredibly diverse tropical marine life and paradise beaches that have been absolutely preserved make Fernando de Noronha the ideal place for anyone who likes to dive, surf or just relax on the beach. Access to this incredibly beautiful volcanic archipelago of 21 islands is totally controlled, with visitors being allowed for a few days only. This ensures the place is 100% protected.

Known as the lungs of the earth, the Amazon certainly has an impact on our perception of our place in this world. The great river and rich immense forest where everything lives irrespective of what’s happening in the rest of the world makes everything else look small and unimportant.

The Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge and the Uacari Lodge will provide great opportunity to experience the river andjungle in different ways. The Anavilhanas Lodge, built with great environmental and preservation concern, bird watching tours, offers walking trails, boat tours, jungle night treks and survival tours. Uakari is a floating jungle lodge based near the small city of Tefe, off a tributary of the Solimoes River. The place is surrounded by wildlife and is a great base for observing all kinds of local species, like birds, caiman, pink dolphins, fish and so many more. Its floating cabins provide close contact with nature at all times.

Day 1 – Rio de Janeiro State
A private driver will be awaiting your arrival in Rio de Janeiro to take you to your Hotel. After checking in, you may like to relax and perhaps have a meal. If you are particularly hungry, we suggest a typical Brazilian barbecue buffet restaurant called Porcão. If you feel like exploring the area around your hotel, we recommend a walk on Copacabana beach and a visit to the local shops and bars.

Day 2 – Rio de Janeiro State
After breakfast, a guide will take you in an air-conditioned vehicle to visit some of the unmissable sites of Rio city. On the way the Corcovado (the Christ statue), you will stop to visit Mesa do Imperador (the Emperor’s Table) and Vista Chinesa (Chinese Lookout point) before going into the Tijuca National Park. In the park, besides visiting the Taunay waterfall and the Mayrink Chapel, you are likely to see some beautiful tropical birds and plant species. The tour continues to the Corcovado, where you will enjoy the amazing 360 º views. You will then continue to Santa Tereza, a neighbourhood of Rio the, for its history and beauty has attracted artists and artisans. You will have a traditionally Brazilian lunch at one of the many great restaurants in the area. The next stop is Chácara do Céu Museum, where you will enjoy great panoramic views of Guanabara bay. Your tour will end at the Sugar Loaf with a spectacular sunset over the city and the bay. By this time, you may be ready to rest and get ready for dinner. We recommend Da Brambini (Italian seafood) in Praia do Leme. If your stay in Rio includes a free Sunday, we recommend the hippie fair (open-air handcrafts market) at Praça Gen Osório, in Ipanema. An evening dinner show (Samba show and dinner) is also available. We would be happy to book this for you, if you’re interested.

Day 3 – Buzios
After breakfast, you will be driven to your hotel in Búzios (approximately 2.5 hours). After check-in, your will visit the best beaches of downtown Buzios: Praia do Canto, Praia da Armação dos Ossos and the lovely and intimate Azeda and Azedinha. This is where the shops and restaurants are situated. It was Brigitte Bardot who put Buzios in the spotlight when she fell in love with what was then a small fishing village, in 1964. Then you will continue to Praia de João Fernandes and the more secluded beaches of Forno, Brava and Ferradura. Geribá is one of the trendiest among the young people, with many cool kiosks that offer cold drinks and snacks. Tartaruga Beach, more protected from the strong winds, where sea turtles lay their eggs, is the last stop. Take some time to relax on your return to the pousada before having dinner. Satiricon (seafood) is one of our recommended restaurants.

Day 4 – Buzios
Take this free day to relax and explore Buzios. Perhaps you would like to visit one or more of the beaches you saw yesterday. Or even take a walk around the village and visit the local shops and restaurants. Tonight our restaurant suggestion is the Italian pizzeria, Capricciosa.

Day 5 – Buzios

Arraial do Cabo was a fisherman village that has grew into a small city well known for its fresh fish and clear beaches. After the tour, your will be taken to the airport in Rio for your flight to Salvador. At the Salvador airport you will be met by your Bahian guide and driven to your hotel, where you will check in. Our dinner suggestion is Lambreta Grill, an award winning seafood café.

Day 7 – Praia do Forte
Today you will see the historic center of Salvador Pelourinho and will taste the delicious flavours of typical Bahian food. You will then visit the Mercado Modelo, a handcraft market that was once the merchandise and slave-trading outpost of the city. Great place to buy souvenirs, handicrafts and local products. Do not miss the catacombs below the market where the slaves were kept prior to sale.

Day 8 – Praia do Forte
Today you will be driven to Praia do Forte in a private vehicle on a trip that takes about an hour. After chek-in, we recommend lunch on the beach or at ‘Bar do Souza’; try their delicious and famous ‘bolinhos de peixe’ (Bahian-style fish cakes) and/or a fish or shrimp moqueca (Bahian stew). After lunch, perhaps you would like to visit the TAMAR PROJECT (turtle NGO) Visitor Center and walk on the beach to Papa Gente’s Natural Pools for snorkeling (much better when the tide is out – ask the locals). As the night comes, you may have worked an appetite. We suggest having dinner at one of the many restaurants on main street.

Day 9 – Praia do Forte
Today we have planned an 8-hour nature tour for you. Start by exploring the Sauipe region, where you will take a 4-Wheeler Tour through Atlantic forest vegetation and along rivers (1 adult per 4-wheeler). You will stop at the Sauípe River for a swim and go down the rapids on inner tubes and will have lunch at the fisherman village of Diogo. After lunch, you will take a canoe trip down river Imbassai. Back at Praia do Forte, dinner in town followed by a stroll around the village is our recommendation.

Day 10 – Praia do Forte
Today you may choose between one of 3 tours: Sauipe River Catamaran, Sauipe Adventure Expedition or Horseback riding. Sauipe River Catamaran Catamaran ride over 7km to the mouth of the River Sauipe, going through beautiful areas of coastal rainforest vegetation and mangroves. A knowledgeable guide will tell you about the local ecosystems. Here you will have the opportunity to swim and bird watch. Sauipe Adventure Expedition Go on a hike through local wetland vegetation to the banks of Sauipe river, where you will go on native wooden canoes and row to the mouth of the river, with the assistance of a guide. You will enjoy a refreshing dip in the river and the sea, before returning to your hotel in a 4×4 vehicle. Horseback riding The horseback ride will begin by going through a lake, then on sand dunes, followed by a trail through tropical forest to the great historical Castelo Garcia D’Avila. This 3.5 hours long ride will wind down along the beach back to the village. Take the afternoon is free to relax and enjoy the area. You may like to take this opportunity to visit the Castelo Garcia D’Avila, which is one of the oldest castle ruins in Brazil and indeed South America.

An English-speaking guide will meet you inside the Island tax paying area and take you to your hotel. You will then go on an island tour on a buggy with your guide. There is good chance of spotting the island’s famous Spinner Dolphin as they depart their bay on their way to high sea for feeding. Dinner around town is recommended.

Pousada Zé Maria’s dinner is recommended for its delicious dishes designed by a Cordon Bleu chef.

Go on a 3-hour horseback ride with a choice of different trails, depending on your preference and experience, either through mountains or along beaches. Free afternoon to relax or go to your favorite spots.

Day 15 – Amazon

This is one of the few places where a colony of white sea urchins can be seen (located on the right side of the bay by the remains of the old port). Shortly after lunch, you will be picked up and taken to the airport (for tis reason, lunch at your pousada is recommended). You will fly to Manaus and a guide from your Amazon Jungle Lodge will meet you at the airport. Check-in and dinner followed by a jungle night trek to see giant spiders and fluorescent fungi.
